We are proud to tell you about our community swim team formed here in Ballston Spa. This team grew out of the summer swim program developed by BARC (Ballston Area Recreation Committee) in 1999. The community investment in our high school pool is now bearing fruit.

Interested parents began this club in September 2000 to expand competition swimming opportunities into a year round activity. We have approximately 50 swimmers ranging in ages 5-18. These children, 90% of whom are Ballston Spa school district students, are keeping physically fit and developing   positive personal traits of hard work and commitment that will surely benefit them and our community.

The swim team has also provided an opportunity for children with certain physical and medical conditions to participate in a sport activity.

The team is in session throughout the year. It is nationally sanctioned with the USAS organization (United States of America Swimming) In the Spring of 2002 we were incorporated as the Ballston Spa Swim Club, Inc. a 301c not for profit organization. We compete with other USA teams at meets throughout the greater Capital District. Swimmers who achieve a qualifying time can go on to state and national championships.

Head Coach Matt Glogowski is currently at Ballston Spa High School.  He swam for four years at Union College, helping the team to four Upper New Your State Championships from 1995 through 1998.  He was elected team captain his senior year at Union.  This is Matthew's fifth year with the Ballston Spa Swim Club.

Assistant Coach Kelley Howell joined the Ballston Spa Swim Club in 2004.  She is a veteran of the BARC program and currently coaches the Ballston Spa Modified Swim Club.

Assistant Coach Mike Rixman is also a Union College Graduate, specializing in distance freestyle and breastroke.  Mike is from Ballston Spa and veteran of Adirondack Swimming.   Mike has coached at the collegiate level at SUNY Potsdam.

Assistant Coach Matt Nafus competed in swimming at the College of Saint Rose and is currently a first grade teacher in the Ballston Spa School District.

Swimming fees cover the cost of coaches, pool time and lifeguards. Our fundraising goal for this year is to raise money for equipment and to cover the startup costs for our two swim meets, which we will host at the Ballston Spa High School pool this season.

We anticipate that these meets will be our major fundraising events and will really help us keep the membership fees affordable for our community. We need sponsors to help us meet this goal.

Meets we will host:

Harvest Invitational:        November 17, 2007.

Cabin Fever Invitational:  February 16, 2007
